Beautiful on Paper

Hats provide shade, yes, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be a ray of sunshine all on their own. Take this wide-brimmed hat from Kyle Hawley. In addition to its cheerful sunflower print, it’s actually made from paper (composed of a 100% natural cellulose fiber), so it’s surprisingly durable and lightweight. You can easily roll it up and pop it in a backpack for an afternoon hike, or smooth it out with a spritz of water or damp cloth to wear at a picnic. And should it get dirty while you’re gardening in the front yard, just toss it in the washing machine and it’s good as new. Handmade in Austin, Texas.

Texas native Kyle Hawley has been creative her whole life, from attending an arts high school, to studying journalism and theater as an undergraduate, to earning a degree in art direction from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. It was there that she learned how to use a letterpress, which prompted her to buy one shortly after graduating. She now owns a design studio and store in Austin, Texas, that features her letterpressed line of stationery, toys, fashion, and more.
