Raised in Lagos, Nigeria, before moving to the United States, Samiat Salami is a self-described fabric nerd. "I inherited it from my grandmother," Samiat explains. "She sold fabric at one of Nigeria's biggest fabric markets." When searching for objects that reminded her of home, Samiat realized that nothing represented her experiences. Today, she creates products that "capture what it means to live in a contemporary West African home--with echoes of the past, but optimistically looking toward the future."
