Join Chef Mark Kalix for an immersive live online workshop in making three mother sauces—hollandaise, béchamel, and tomato—that form the backbone of countless dishes and are key to learning the art of sauce-making itself. This class is just right for both culinary novices and experienced cooks looking to enhance their skills and wow family and friends with restaurant-quality flavors at home.

  • Gain hands-on experience in creating mother sauces from scratch and learn their historical significance and versatile use across a wide range of dishes.
  • Understand essential cooking techniques for creating a buttery hollandaise, making a smooth béchamel, and preparing a garden-fresh tomato concassé.
  • Learn about daughter sauces, like velouté, a version of béchamel that’s made with clear stock instead of milk.
  • Discover how to pair hollandaise with fresh asparagus, and how béchamel and tomato concassé can transform even simple pasta dishes into exquisite gourmet experiences.

So it isn't surprising that he's added teaching to his long resumé. The Ohio native, who now calls Denver, Colorado home, focuses on having fun in the kitchen and using fresh ingredients prepared with skilled techniques to bring out their best flavor. When Mark isn't in the kitchen, you'll find him mountain biking, skiing, climbing and enjoying the great outdoors with friends and family.
