So disappointed it no longer scratches off

Purchased this map as a gift for my son who loves traveling and geography. He enjoyed scratching off all the places we've traveled to and it was beautiful at first revealing all the colorful countries under the gold foil. However now the foil will not rub off and when/if it does it rips the paper or leaves residue. It's awful. So sad because he really loved this map but it's useless now that most of it can't be revealed.

Stopped scratching off

I've had this map for years and love the design, but it no longer scratches off. Tried scratching off a new country and pretty much ruined the look of the map. Would love a replacement if possible.

Doesn't scratch off any longer

I loved the idea of this gift. We were tracking our travels as a family. After a few years, it no longer scratches off. It is frustrating.

Thank you for your feedback. We're aware of a limited issue with the long-term use of the map. Depending on the age and storage conditions, the scratch foil can dry up and stick to the paper making it difficult to scratch off. This is the same for all 'scratch-off' products, so unfortunately is unavoidable, although ours do use a high-quality latex to reduce this possibility. We'd love replace this so that you may continue using it to track your family travels, we're reaching out directly to get started.

Why do you still carry a map that doesn't scratch off??

There are so many reviews that say that it stops being able to scratch off after a while. We had the same thing happen with one we bought previously. We want to buy another one, and order whichever kind of the map that doesn't have this problem. Please stop selling the ones that don't scratch off after a period of time.

Depending on the age and storage conditions, the scratch foil can dry up and stick to the paper making it difficult to scratch off. We see a very low rate of reported issues but we are always happy to offer a replacement if you should experience any problems using this in the future.

Doesn't Scratch Anymore

I agree with other reviews- this is a great map at first, but now that I haven't used it for a few years, it no longer scratches off (with an eraser, as recommended, or with anything else). A big shame, since I paid a lot to get it custom framed, too.

Love it but...

I loved this when I first got it and I still love how it looks, but like other recent reviews, I'm now unable to scratch anything off. I've had it for a few years but isn't the point of it to be a long lasting product so you can continue scratching off places as you travel to them? I've tried all the tricks. But to be honest, it wasn't easy to scratch off even when I first got it. And the colors definitely aren't as vibrant as the pictures. Also, weird thing was that it smelled so bad when I first scratched it. I have a sensitive nose but it had an overwhelming metal smell. Overall, kinda bummed about it.

Works for about a year then stops scratching

I bought this map and after a year you can't scratch off the foil anymore so it becomes just a decoration.

So bummed it won't scratch!

We were so excited about tracking our travels and hanging this in our living room. It is a beautiful map but I can't scratch off the top for the states we have been to without ruining the map. Very disappointed!

Doesn't scratch

Cool product if you could scratch off the areas you traveled to. Same issue as other reviews… didn't travel for a bit due to the pandemic and now the map top surface you're supposed to scratch off can't be removed without damaging the map itself. Disappointing

Can't scratch

The map seems to be good quality. But we are having the same problem that others have commented on. We did not travel for a few years after receiving this gift due to the pandemic. Now we can't seem to scratch(or erase) off the film. Would be open to a replacement if that's a possibility!

I have one of these maps and now it is really hard to scratch or erase the the gold paint/foil. Any tips or ways to remove or refresh the paint/foil?

Hi! You would probably want to try a coin or something metal and with a flat edge, if you're still having an issue a pencil eraser could also work to "scratch" off the countries. It would probably be easier on you to work on a stable flat and hard surface.

Hi Teresa! This is just the map. In the photos, you can see that one customer framed it, so that is an option, but it does not come with anything like that.

Hello! This will arrive rolled, in a sturdy tube, so it will arrive without folds, however, you are free to fold and crease it if you'd like!

The two images in the listing are slightly different. I know, because I have a version of each. Is it possible to lnow which one we are receiving? One is more beonze with more detailes black outlines and shading and the other is more gold with basic outlines.

Does the deluxe scratch map have marked States in countries other than US? Like in India are the states marked or does onebhave to scratch of all of India?

The borders between states are not marked, and if you look closely at the picture you will see that it is one piece of gold foil over India. However when you scratch off the foil, it reveals some of the major city names in white text.

You can do it however you like! I actually just bought this myself, and for smaller countries I scratched off the whole country, whereas for larger ones I scratched off only the areas I have visited.

Are you able to scratch off individual islands such as Nassau, Bahamas?

The Bahamas and other islands are labelled, however because they are so small relative to the rest of the countries, there is only a tiny amount of surface area within the island to scratch off. For that reason, there is gold foil covering over all the islands and the water between them so that you can scratch off portions of it for each island.

IF i scratch off an area say Indiana and Illinois, will i still be able to see the name and outline of Indiana and Illinois and any other say country or state i scratch off?

Absolutely! If you zoom in on the photograph of the scratch map, you can see that the background changes colors and the lettering turns white. The borders will remain when you scratch it off. For more a more detailed look, check out the photos submitted by other customers under the item's story.
