Lucky in Love

A horseshoe is both an iconic good luck symbol, and a reminder of a simpler, traditional way of life. This horseshoe is embraced by a band of metal that reaches up to form a heart with a curlicue flourish. The fluid form of the heavy metal comes from the blacksmithing talents of Alexandra Paliwoda, who applies her skills to both shoeing horses and decorative work. The piece is itself a blending of the practical and the beautiful: it functions as a sturdy trivet, protecting your wooden surfaces and countertops, but when not in use it is elegant enough to display on the walls for a touch of rustic romance. Handmade in Montana.

β€œI hammered out piles of ironwork and spent countless hours getting blisters and burns, until I could make something good.”

Inspired by all things wild and free, Alexandra Paliwoda expresses her love of untamed places with her hand-forged ironwork. Born in the Rocky Mountains and raised in the backcountry of Alaska, she began working with metal in 2000, when she was certified as a farrier by Montana State University and forged horseshoes. She worked with horses and in agriculture while living a subsistence lifestyle in Alaskaβ€”including building her own cabin in the north country. Now based in Montana, she feels that the most important things in life are the experiences.
