We are only as successful as the artists and designers we work with. Their unique creations are what keep our lights on and the reason our customers visit our website and read our catalogs. Our passion for identifying the very best designs to add to our assortment of uncommon goods is why we’ve decided to partner with jewelry industry authority JCK on the first-ever “UncommonGoods Design Challenge” for JCK Tucson. JCK Tucson is an event catered to jewelry industry professionals that displays one-of-a-kind collections of finished jewelry and loose gemstones. The event takes place February 2-7 at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, AZ.
Hello there! My name is Gaby and I am the newest addition to the Uncommon Goods team. You are going to see a lot of me as I will be writing on this blog pretty often. Here are some other things you should know about me.
I have my own lifestyle blog, Paperplanes & Maryjanes where I talk about food, clothes and décor. I have also recently opened Paperplanes & Maryjanes Handmade where I currently sell a collection of knit and crochet bows.
I recently moved back to Brooklyn from San Francisco where I was living for 6 months. I competed in a Facebook contest and won the opportunity to work as a blogger for Levi’s as The Levi’s Girl!
One of my most beloved possessions is a 65 Schwinn cruiser named Ursula. I am most likely to be found riding around the park blasting Mama Cass from my iPhone in my front basket and singing along.
I eat an embarrassing amount of tacos and Tootsie Rolls- but never at the same time.
When not on my bike, I sing along to songs on my ukulele which I taught myself how to play this summer. (I also just chopped off all my hair and miss it dearly.)
Check out this great interview with our founder & CEO Dave Bolotsky over at Tonic, where he discusses issues like sustainability, customer service, going against the grain and the future of UncommonGoods.
And congrats to our email marketing team! They were included in Responsys’ top twenty innovative email designs of 2010.
Way to go everyone!
It’s hard to think about fall in the middle of a heat wave…but I must admit it was nice to see our latest fall catalog – chock full of lots of fun new things for the end of summer and start of autumn. Plus, doing a little online shopping with the AC blasting sure beats heading out in the heat!

(Ok, not really, but we are getting involved in New York State politics!)
Hot off the press — the bill for benefit corporations (UncommonGoods was a founding member) was passed in NY state! This bill makes room in state corporate law for a legal middle ground between nonprofits and ordinary businesses. Hip hip hooray!
Here’s the catch, though, the bill still must pass in the Assembly and then go to the Governor before becoming law. If you want to help make this happen, please call Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s office at 518.455.3791 – bill # is A11498 – we’re hoping to get it passed before the session ends next week!
