Giveaway: Family Traditions Journal

November 4, 2011

Every family has traditions. Some of them are big, annual events, like that special meal on your favorite holiday. Others seem smaller, like bedtime stories and inside jokes, but even those daily details help build lasting memories.

Our new Family Traditions is the perfect way to celebrate those memories and we’re giving away three, just in time for the holidays.

Whether it’s a plump turkey on Thanksgiving, Goldilocks and the Three Bears at bedtime, or a funny nickname with a funnier story behind it, the Family Traditions Journal is a way to capture those moments and pass traditions on from generation to generation.

World’s Greatest Boss?

October 13, 2011

Boss’ Day is coming up, but there’s still time to find the perfect gift for the excellent executive in your life.

Before the proclamation of this special day you could only show your boss how much you cared on his or her birthday, during the holidays, and at mandatory company events. Then in 1958 Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee of State Farm Insurance Company, decided that bosses should have their very own day each year.

Aiming to not only create a day to show bosses that they are appreciated, but also to improve employer-employee relations, she registered Boss’ Day with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Thanks to her admiration for her great boss, we’ve been celebrating this annual national holiday for more than 50 years!

Mark your Perpetual Calendar

Usually, Boss’ Day is on October 16, which Patricia chose because it was her Boss’ (who was also her dad) birthday. Since that happens to be a Sunday this year, you can show your boss they’re a superb supervisor by celebrating on Monday the 17th.

In honor of this managerial Monday, we’ve created a collection of our favorite gifts for bosses inspired by our fantastic boss, UncommonGoods Founder Dave Bolotsky.

Dave is a great boss because he values our opinions, puts employees first, and makes UncommonGoods a fun place to work.

Do you have a great boss? We’d love to hear why!

Naughty or Nice?

September 3, 2011

Ciara said: “These are HILARIOUS! Perfect for my little brother WHO SPIT GUM IN MY HAIR!!!!!”

These Little Lumps of Coal are a cute way to get back at someone who has been picking on you, without being mean. Made from organic cotton, the squeezable little lumps are much cleaner than the real deal.

Do you have a little brother who deserves a lump of coal in his stocking? Does your little one need a reminder that Santa knows whether they’ve been naughty or nice? Visit our community voting app and tell us whether these lively lumps should join our lineup before the holidays!

We’re here to help. Over the next few weeks we’ll be responding to customer requests with gift guides to help you find something for even the pickiest of your favorite people. Leave a comment if you’d like a suggestion or two for someone on your shopping list.

First up: Parents.

Once you’re an adult, it can be hard to know what to give to your family. Somehow, homemade macaroni art just doesn’t seem as appropriate. They’ve grown. You’ve grown. Maybe you’re a parent now too. Here are some gifts to remind your parents (or grandparents) just how special they are to you.
