Handy Dad

Written by HGTV’s Todd Davis, this book turns DIY projects into playtime. The handy little manual let’s dad chose from 25 projects within three levels of time commitments:  Easy Projects (lava lamp), Afternoon Projects (tire swing) or Weekend Projects (tree house) that kids are sure to love.

Super Tool

Dad may already have a box full of tools, but the Super Tool is an all-in-one gadget that will let him fix things in a pinch when his regular arsenal of fix-it gear isn’t available. Great for the glove box, the kitchen drawer or the office, the Super Tool features a level, tape measure, LED light, hammer, 90-degree-locking screw driver with 16 bits and powerful alloy magnets.

Gifts for the Geek Dad

June 7, 2011

As Father’s Day approaches, you’ve no doubt started looking for the perfect gift for your pops. No matter what kind of dad calls you his kiddo, we’ve got something he’ll love.

We plan to break down the dad-egories and give you gift ideas for all kinds of paternal persons, but today we’re getting things started with gifts for the Geek Dad.

Geek Pocket Watch

Geek Pocket Watch

Like your dad, this brass pocket watch is smart and stylish. The watch features a classic cover, to protect the face while its in dad’s pocket. Whether he’s a math geek or just a fan of the unique, he won’t be able to wait to open it up and show off the equations within.

Numerically inclined dads may want to spend some time solving each equation, but if your dad would rather check someone else’s work, he can read The Geek Watch Decoded and see how another dad did the math!

USB Card Pen

USB Card Pens

If your dad is tech-savvy, chances are he’s always looking for new techie gadgets and gizmos. The USB Card Pen is the perfect combination of a classic Father’s Day Gift (a pen) and something a little more modern (a USB flash drive).

Or, perhaps dad would love another classic gift with a modern twist, the iBottle Opener. But if you’re not quite ready for messages from your pa to show up on When Parents Text, feel free to check out some of our other geeky gadgets.

F in Exams

F in Exams

Father knows best, so he might enjoy reading some humorous excerpts from those who got it wrong. The answers may not be correct in the traditional sense, but they do get bonus points for creativity.

F in Exams will make your dad smile all on its own, or it can be paired with one of our other gifts for geeks if you’re looking for extra credit!

The Uncommon Life

A thank-you letter to dad

June 14, 2010

Father's Day

Dear Dad,

Thanks for hanging our artwork up in your office. Thanks for giving us money when we needed it and cutting us off when we needed to be. Thanks for not getting mad at us when we wrecked the car. Thanks for not only coming to our games, but coming to our practices too. Thanks for not yelling at us when we got in a fight at school. Thanks for putting our toys together every Christmas and every birthday. Thanks for holding onto the back of the bike. Thanks for never asking for directions – getting lost was the fun part. Thanks for teaching us how to drive stick shift. Thanks for taking us to that baseball/basketball/football game – just the two of us. Thanks for helping us convince Mom to get a dog. Thanks for teaching us how to fix the sink and change a tire. Thanks for teaching us how to do a flip off the high dive. Thanks for letting us learn things the hard way. Thanks for the treehouse/tire swing/rope over the lake. Thanks for being hard on all our high school boyfriends – they weren’t good enough. Thanks for giving us our first pair of cufflinks when we got our first real job. Thanks for walking us down the aisle. Thanks for calling to check on us whenever something  happens within a 100-mile radius of where we live. Thanks for being such a good Grandpa/Grandfather/Pop-Pop/Pee-Paw.
Thanks Dad, for everything.

Happy Father’s Day!
