When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
I don’t really consider myself an artist, I would say more of a designer. Josh is more of the creative director type and I like to figure out how we are going to actually make the goods themselves, its really a lot of fun and requires work from a whole team :).
I have always wanted to design and make new things in the consumer products space. I love thinking of new things and products, and trying to make them into something real. Josh and I, along with our small team, strive to do this every day. We’ve built a group of passionate designers and individuals who seem to have a like minded energy and its been a great couple of years so far.
What was the most exciting thing about becoming a professional artist?
I have loved the process of working with my best friend to make products and designs that we love. We’ve been able to chase our dreams in that regards.
What does your typical day in the studio look like?
We both work about 16-18 hours a day, this means up early in the studio, taking care of the busy work, with creative sessions smattered throughout. The best creative work is done outside of the regular studio hours, early in the morning, late at night and on the weekends.
Is there a trinket, talisman, or other inspirational object you keep near? If so, what is it and what does it mean to you?
My watch. Its a very simple $20 Timex. It’s from my wife and it always makes me think of her. It’s also incredibly simple in design and I love it.
Imagine you just showed your work to a kindergartener for the first time. What do you think they would say?
I think they would think it was a toy? I don’t really know 🙂
