My Grandma Hannah was the first person to introduce me to palindromes, words that read the same backward and forward. Her name, with its impeccable symmetry and simple syllables, still wins as my favorite palindrome. “Mom” is another favorite, though for different reasons. Sure, it was one of the first words I uttered and it holds powerful meaning in my life. But what really tickles me is that the word “MOM” when written in all upper-case letters spells “WOW.”
How perfect is that? Seriously.
Even though it wasn’t intentional when the word “mom” originated, moms are some of the most “wow-worthy” people in our lives. Not only because of their strong influence, but also because of their sage advice and unexpected witticisms.

My mom always says this to me and my two older sisters – “You can fall in love with a rich man just as easily as a poor man.” If only it were that easy, lol. <3
Mom always said that “…with each childhood birthday, you get a new kid”. Meaning each year comes with changes.After having my own children I see this is very true.
When my older daughter was about two years old and sick with a fever, I told my mother I would be glad when my daughter was old enough that I didn’t need to worry so much when she was sick. My mother said, “she’ll never get that old.” My daughter is almost 42, and she hasn’t gotten that old yet.
Two momisms come to mind: “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all” and “if you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas”. How I miss my mom!!!
My Mom told me when I was dating. Never let a boy kiss you on the first date, but if he does, tell him you are not allowed to kiss on the first date, and you have to give it back. Yea

A couple of things I cannot say, but this one always got me….when we would cry about something, she would say, “If you are going to keep crying, I will give you something to really cry about.” Hahahaha! That would make me stop!
My mom often told me “You don’t age respect, you earn it.” She also shocked me by urging me to “test drive the car before you buy it”… definitely wasn’t talking about cars!
My mother would say, “you will have to get glad in the same pants you got sad in”. Meaning, you were just going to have to get over the decision that she has made and that was all there was to it.
Stop itching and scratching that or you will turn into a pig’s foot!
My mom said: “Walk Tall, Think Tall”. . .I always knew the first part was about standing up straight, but it took me a long time to figure out the second part was about keeping high ideals! Love you, Mom, wish I could hug you today!
My mom likes to say “Be Good, and if you can’t be good then be careful!”
My boyfriend’s mother is a darling & he once told me a story that I remember to this day (it’s been many moons now). They are driving in the city & heard a car backfire & she screams, “lock the doors, they’re shooting” … sound wisdom?!? “This too shall pass.” Sound advice from my mom, as it applies to mounds of laundry, sick kids, unruly teenagers, and every other circumstance in life! Thanks, Mom, for sticking by my side through thick and thin. I love you.
My mom’s favorite saying is, “If we leave now, we’ll be back later!” and it shows how much my mom loves our family, because she is always on the bright side and cheerful. Our house is full of laughter and silliness.
